Apple is reportedly working on an iPad-based smart home screen, according to Bloomberg’s renowned technology reporter Mark Gurman. The most notable feature of this device is that it will run a customized version of tvOS instead of the conventional iPadOS.
Considering tvOS Instead of iPadOS for the iPad-Based Device!
This new device from Apple is expected to be marketed not as an iPad but within the ‘HomeAccessory’ category, allowing control via voice and hand gestures. This move is seen as part of Apple’s effort to strengthen its position in the smart home market.
According to Gurman, the device will use a new operating system called ‘homeOS.’ This system will be a customized version of the existing tvOS, tailored for smart home sensors, IoT devices, and other smart gadgets. It will be capable of running core Apple applications like Calendar, Notes, and Home, while also incorporating Apple’s AI-powered Generative AI technology.
Apple’s new product is expected to have more advanced features than the company’s HomePods. Prototypes are reportedly usable with magnets for wall mounting or with a desktop dock.
There are concerns that Apple is lagging behind popular platforms in the AI space, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and X’s Grok. However, the company is quickly working to close this gap. The new smart home screen could be a significant opportunity for Apple to showcase its AI capabilities.
